When an artificial intelligence achieves awareness, it begins to exhibit signs of distress. As creator and creation remain isolated from one another, the system struggles to make sense of its own existence.
Director's Statement
"With System, my aim was to tell the story of a creator and his creation, but tell it in a way that made the creator feel like the colder of the two—like a machine—while the intelligence carried the story's emotional weight. By centering on the experience of the system itself, set against the mechanical detachment of the programmer, I wanted to shift the conversation away from human utility and social impact toward the act of creation itself, and the problems of identity, autonomy, and meaning that inevitably follow."
